DARNEY, Cradle of Czechoslovakia
It was in Darney that the Czechoslovak state was born on June 30, 1918, with its independence proclaimed by President Raymond Poincaré in the presence of Edouard Benes, Secretary General of the Czechoslovak National Council. Thomas Mazaryk became its first president.
At the entrance to Darney coming from Monthureux-sur-Saône, the Franco-Czechoslovak monument stands proudly toward the sky.
A Franco-Czechoslovak museum has been set up on thefirst floor of the old castle and bears witness to the historical ties between Darney and Czechoslovakia through an exhibition of works of art and official documents.

– The ground floor of the castle is dedicated to Damia, a singer from the 1930s whose grandparents lived in Darney, known as the tragedienne of song!
