Tour proposed by the Departmental Council
Heritage Loop

Departure: Darney Intermarché
Immerse yourself in the history of the liberation of the Vosges with this fully marked 200 km route.
On August 1, 1944, General Leclerc de Hautecloque's 2nd Armored Division landed at Utah Beach in the commune of Saint Martin de Varreville (Manche). Returning to French soil after their epic campaign in Africa, Leclerc's soldiers began their heroic march towards Strasbourg, fulfilling the oath they had sworn in Koufra three years earlier, before continuing on to Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" in Berchtesgaden.
Inspired by "La Voie Sacrée" (The Sacred Way) and "La Voie de la Liberté" (The Way of Freedom), this "Voie de la 2e DB" (Way of the 2nd Armored Division) faithfully follows the route taken by this French armored division from Normandy to Alsace.
It is marked by specific markers placed in a visible location in each of the towns liberated by the 2nd Armored Division or in which General Leclerc temporarily established his command post.
