The Maquis of Deliverance
TOLLAINCOURT – ROCOURT
In 1943, the Délivrance maquis, the first maquis in the Vosges, was created near Lamarche. For five months, it took in around a hundred young people who had refused to participate in the Compulsory Work Service (STO) in Germany. Responsibility for the camp was entrusted to Addi Bâ, a unique figure in the history of the French Resistance.
Arriving in the Vosges in June 1940 as part of a regiment of Senegalese riflemen, this young Guinean settled in Tollaincourt and joined the first local Resistance cells, led by Marcel Arburger from Lamarchois. Executed on December 18, 1943, the two men paid for their commitment with their lives.
Covering a 30 km stretch, the historical trail "In the footsteps of Addi Bâ" features nine information panels linked to a web series, inviting you to follow in the footsteps of Addi Bâ and his comrades between villages and forests, visiting the very places where the events took place.
