LAMARCHE, the memory of the Renard brothers
The memory of Charles Renard (1847-1905) and his brother Paul (1854-1933) has left a lasting mark on the town of Lamarche, where they lived. Although they are associated with the history of airships, the Renard brothers, and Charles in particular, were responsible for several major discoveries and technical and scientific innovations, including a large number of engine designs. They are credited with the Renard mathematical series, the continuous traction road train, and the first flight in an electrically powered airship.
There are numerous tributes to the brothers in the town: an aerostele opposite the church, a commemorative plaque on the family home opposite the town hall, a grave in the municipal cemetery, Rue du Colonel Renard, etc.
