BLEURVILLE

Saint-Maur Abbey, an11th-century church converted inthe 16th century during the Gothic period, was in very poor condition when it was purchased by Abbot Pierrat in 1973. It houses a15th-century wooden Christ and a16th-century Pietà.

Thanks to the Scouts de France and volunteers, restoration and refurbishment work on the abbey continues every year. A splendid crypt in a very primitive Romanesque style with Burgundian influences has thus been restored to its former glory.

Every summer, concerts and conferences are held there, and a small archaeological museum has been created, as well as a Museum of Religious Life and Popular Piety.

Since 1976, the Friends of Saint-Maur have been working to preserve and promote this listed monument.
