Son église, les frères Renard, la chapelle d'Aureil Maison
THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION
Dating from the 13th century, modified and enlarged during the 16th and 17th centuries, it is classified as a Historic Monument. Its architecture presents the essential characteristics of Gothic art: ribbed vault, pointed arch and exterior buttress. Except for the first bay, with 3 Romanesque capitals decorated with picturesque characters, dressed in a belted bliaud or holding tools of their corporation.
Inside there is an organ made by Nicolas Antoine Lété de Mirecourt and a statue of the Virgin and Child, in polychrome stone from the 14th century, each classified as a Historic Monument.
THE RENARD BROTHERS
The memory of Charles Renard and his brother Paul has had a considerable impact on the memory of the town. The two brothers were born in Damblain, Charles in 1847 and Paul in 1854.
If the history of the airship is associated with them, the Renard brothers, and in particular Charles, are in fact at the origin of several discoveries, major technical and scientific innovations including a large number of different engines, hydrogen, battery, steam, etc. It is to them that we owe in particular the Renard mathematical series, the continuous traction train and the first flight in an airship with electric propulsion.
You will find many tributes to the brothers in the commune: balloon opposite the church, commemorative plaque on the family home opposite the town hall, grave in the communal cemetery, rue du Colonel Renard...
THE CHAPEL OF AUREIL HOUSE
Installed on an ancient Gallo-Roman estate, the chapel of Aureil Maison is attested as early as 1044. Inside the Roman apse, a wooden Virgin and Child from the 12th century, classified as a Historic Monument, is one of the oldest in the Vosges. Also worth seeing is the Virgin of Mercy, in white limestone, which comes from the large fortified gate of Lamarche. It dates from the end of the 15th century and has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1947.
