This monument was erected in honor of the Vosges guerrillas.
On September 7, 1944, after an uneven fight against German forces that held hostages the inhabitants of the villages of Grandrupt-de-bains and Vioménil (about 700 people), the guerrillas surrendered. The hostages were the fathers, mothers, sisters, women or children of the maquis men.
The attack on the maquis left three dead and 213 prisoners, 117 of whom died in the Nazi concentration and extermination camps.
A marked path at the beginning of the memorial allows access to the rock of the PC of the maquis.
