The Madon begins in the forest of Escles. The source is visible from a walking trail that runs through the Vallon Saint-Martin, also called Vallon druidique.
A Roman road crossed the Madonna at the Void of Escles. Void comes from vadum, gué in Latin.
Unlike the Saône, whose source is close by, the Madon flows north to Pont-Saint-Vincent en Meurthe-et-Moselle where it flows into the Moselle after a little less than 100 km.
