Bonvillet
Our region, for several centuries, was lined with quarries, mainly Grés, from which were extracted grindstones and cut stones intended for construction. Very few of these quarries survived, some covered by vegetation, others filled with repous of all kinds. It is important to keep a witness of this industry and its development. To do this, the municipality of Bonvillet maintains and revives this place, in partnership with the association Villageoise du village.
The company SEBELER ceases its activity at Forge Kaïtel in 2010, and it is only in 2018 that the municipality decides to acquire it to revive it. Nature having regained its rights, the Municipal Council, with the association, rolls up the sleeves in April 2019 to update this site... strong human investment! Affected with bark beetles, the affected woods are treated by a specialized company, then the area is dismantled, the land flattened, drained and reseeded.
Where are we today?
We have collected many materials used for this trade, lathe, wagon, drill, and many tools, some of which are exhibited on the site.
In this career several animations are organized in the year:
- July : Reception of young school students, with presentation of the occupation of carrier, extraction of a block of rigging, drafting and turning of grinding wheels to sharpen, initiation to stone cutting etc
- August : Sandstone festival. Together with the village association, the municipality revives the career (900 people in 2019). Many activities are on the agenda on the work of the carriers. Extraction of a block of stone, face demonstration, drilling and turning of grinding wheels, transport of stone, exhibition of equipment and old tools. Several sculptors will be present. The forge of Antan will be present to show how to forge the tools. So that children can also participate, a stone sculpture workshop will be available. Meals on site.
All year round: it is possible to visit this place, accessible to all, an educational circuit guides the walker. And it is also possible to make a 4 km walk (Sentier des Carrières) superb loop during which you will discover several ancient sites of stone extraction, beautiful undergrowth, the Saône that winds in the valley of Bonvillet.
